How To Use Vim
Step-by-step instructions to view and close care gaps directly in your EHR

Step 1: Look for the Blue Heart Icon
When you're viewing a patient chart or schedule, look for a blue heart next to the patient’s name.
This icon indicates that patient insights are available for that patient.
Step 2: Click the Blue Heart to Open Vim
Clicking the heart opens Vim’s panel, where you’ll see a list of actionable patient insights, like quality measures and risk adjustment coding opportunities pulled from the patient’s health plan(s).
Step 3: Review the Patient’s Open Gaps
Each gap includes:
- Type of gap (e.g., mammogram, A1C, colonoscopy)
- Payer source (which health plan submitted the gap)
- Details or recommendations (where available)
Step 4: Take Action
Address the gap in today’s visit (e.g., order a test, schedule a screening)
Document that the gap is already closed in the patient’s chart
No need to submit anything separately—your actions in the EHR will be automatically shared with the health plan if the gap is closed.
Step 5: Close the Panel and Continue Your Workflow
Once reviewed, simply close the panel and return to your standard workflow. Vim is designed to be lightweight and embedded—no extra portal login, no switching tabs.
